Pradeep Mishra draws on the natural world for the subjects of his paintings. Animals, birds and plants, as the artist’s main choice of subjects, portray his environmental concerns and his sensitivity towards the effects of present ecological imbalances. The deep intensity shown in his subject’s eyes, animal or human, blatantly displays their discontent. The fiery red colour that often fills up the background in Mishra’s canvases, adds to the defiant nature of his content.

Born in 1977 in Tumsar, Maharashtra, Mishra completed his Bachelor’s degree in Painting from the Sir J.J. School of Art in 2002, followed by his Master’s degree from the same institution, in 2004. After his graduation, Mishra was selected for the residency program at Khoj, New Delhi, in the same year.

The artist’s solo shows include ‘Being Served’ presented by RL Fine Arts, New York, at Hacienda Gallery, Mumbai, in 2008; ‘Living Instinct’ presented by Osmosis Gallery at the Museum Art Gallery, Mumbai, in 2008; ‘Fields of Labour’ at Anant Art, New Delhi, in 2008; and ‘Fragrance of Earth at the Guild Art Gallery, Mumbai, in 2007. Amongst his group shows, the most recent are ‘Filament: 6 years of the Peers Residency @ khoj’ presented by Khoj International Artists’ Association at Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi; Palette Art Gallery, New Delhi; ‘Popular Reality’ at Gallery Seven Art Limited, New Delhi; and Hacienda Art Gallery, Mumbai, all held in 2008.
