OPPORTUNITIES / Opportunities at Khoj

Deadline: 7 June 2020

In these unprecedented circumstances, we are rethinking how we can offer support to early-career practitioners, who have always been a primary part of the community Khoj serves. The instability of the present and the uncertainty of the future may make it difficult to carry on as usual. While we are offering monetary support in the form of the Khoj Support Grant 2020, we believe that this moment calls for us to share our knowledge and resources as well.

In order to provide artists with a network of support and solidarity at this time, Khoj has collaborated with a group of artists, critics and curators, including Rohini Devasher, Jiten Thukral and Sumir Tagra, Zuleikha Chaudhari, Vishal K Dar, Asim Waqif and Latika Gupta, Sabih Ahmed, Radha Mahendru and Sohrab Hura to offer their services to early-career artists.

Recognizing feedback and mentorship as important nodes to facilitate creative thinking, they will be offering:

  • Critical feedback on your work
  • Advice on assembling portfolios
  • Advice on writing about your work (artist’s statements, writing as practice etc)
  • Counsel about how to sustain an artistic practice in these difficult times and alternate economic and creative opportunities
  • Each applicant will be paired with two artists/ critics/curators for a period of two months. They will then be able to mutually work out a suitable time framework to talk to each other within that period.

To ensure detailed and attentive feedback,  we will be able to support 20 artists for each cycle of this initiative.

Who is Eligible

This is open to all emerging/ early career artists, with a demonstrable commitment to practice, including those who may not have applied for Khoj Support Grant 2020.

We will be judging applications on the seriousness of intent—we are looking for artists who are committed to growing their practice.

It is meant specifically for those artists who do not have gallery infrastructure.
