Exactly a month back, on the 19th of September an assorting mix of people got together at Khoj to explore various activities and processes to do with farmig/growing food. The evening included a walk from Khoj through the winding streets leading to Gandhi Park where Kush and others have initiated the growing of a set of plants with the involvement of people who live and work around the park area.

Post this, back at Khoj we cooked and ate Alovera pickle – something most of us had never heard of! Shradha demonstrated the cooking of this easy to grow plant, saplings of which were also available to be picked up, provided by the Bombay Natural History Society.

An important part of the evening was presentations by DailyDump, an business that markets easy to use composting units which can be installed in small spaces like balconies for composting kitchen waste. We also had the senior journalist from Down to Earth, Latha Jishnu talk to us about the larger implications of GMO and its patent laws. 4

Besides this, the evening had a seed stall with organic seasonal seeds – maithi, tamato, beens etc and a seed+gobar bomb game on the roof top by Asim Waqif. It was a festive evening around food and farming and most importantly saw the coming together of a very diverse set of people – residents of khirki, passers by, environmental enthusiasts and artists!
