International ECO+ART Residency Nov-Dec 2007

KHOJ is hosting an International Residency in an attempt to explore the relationship between Ecology & Art in public spaces from 12th November to 20th December 2007 in the city of Delhi. Delhi is a bustling metropolis which has undergone a vast developmental change, changing the historical & ecological map of the city in the last century. More and more, the environment may be perceived as much of a political realm as an ecological one, from the perspective of production, consumption and of ownership rights.

The Yamuna Project

2007’s opening Residency at KHOJ focused on the theme of Eco Art . It hosted two Delhi based artists -> Atul Bhalla who works with sculpture, performance and photographs + photographer Ravi Aggarwal. Both artists have had several years of engagement with the river Yamuna in Delhi as a water and ecological entity.

Art & Environment Residency Aug-Sept 2004

More and more, the environment may be perceived as much a political realm as an ecological one, from the perspective of production, consumption and of ownership rights. Artists, in turn, are responding by answering collective cultural needs and developing active and practical roles in environmental and social issues. Within this context Khoj in collaboration with CHINTAN, an environment research and action group organised the International Residency for August and September 2004, around the theme of Art and the Environment. The residency focused on the importance of facilitating a sustainable balance between man and nature through restoration, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

till 28th December: Pradip Saha addresses the issue of traffic congestion in the busy metropolis of Delhi in his video composition "HARD TIMES"using a cacophony of public opinion coupled with rattling visuals of traffic snarls,on view at the A Block parking lot of Connaught Place in front of the INDIA TODAY BUILDING .

4th December 2007 . near balban's tomb, mehrauli ....close to the excavtions site of balban's tomb, a series of small digs,,,same across really loose rubble and a stone that seemed to be a part of a relief...put in the pieces as they fell over the dug space and let a few remain burried at the end.

2007's opening Residency started with a picnic at the Jagatpur village banks - upstream of Wazirabad.... After spending the afternoon enjoying the peace and digging into hot food and tea.... we were later joined by the Mukhia (headman) of the village who gave us a detailed history of the land, the river and the people of the village.
