"Assimilation" is the word which aptly describes the latest residency at Khoj Studios. An amalgamation of signing Spanish gypsy poetry, mythology and depiction of issues of disability; the enthusiastic group of twelve deaf students under the tutelage of Spanish artist Jose Abad Lorente are a delight to watch.

The residency at the newly acquired studio of KHOJ at Khirki in Delhi was an enriching experience. This was the first International Artists’ Residency at that studio which offered inspiring spaces to the participating artists to work. I was lucky to be part of it both as a participating artist and host for the artists from other countries. It was a good six weeks residency to gather experiences in different ways and to interact with the other participating artists while working at the same place.

Peers Student Residency 2003

2003 saw the first PEERS Student Residency with graduates from Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi, J.J School of Art, Mumbai, Central University, Hyderabad, M.S University, Baroda and the Government College of Art, Chandigarh. PEERS 2003 was entirely self-funded with assistance from arts organizations such as the Sakshi gallery. Working on a very tight budget, the students lived and worked in New Delhi for 4 weeks.

Introduction

Historically, the 1990s has become a junction that progressed towards the millennium, a countdown that was a landmark in time and space. It was also a time to look back in retrospect and look ahead with optimism.
