Peers 2005

PEERS is a 4-week residency programme for recent graduates from art colleges across India initiated with support from the India Foundation for the Arts (IFA), which provides an opportunity for exchange and dialogue. The PEERS Program hopes to create a regular forum for experimentation, development, and critique within an alternative educational framework. PEERS 2005 was an exciting platform for Bhupal, Himanshu, Sanhita, Rajesh, Malvika and Rohini and the work on display at the Khoj Studios spoke eloquently of their drive and enthusiasm.

Gandhi/man without Specs

The revenue and postage stamps are official documents. Revenue signifies a system of smooth administrated society and an in-built system for achieving intra and intergene rational equity.

Postage stamps are essential identifying documents required for the post to reach its destination.

The images of the stamps (revenue/ postage) are idealized signs/ symbols and images of national icons. The original identity of the stamps, the explored/replaced identity, the aspect of travel/ dislocation associated herewith represents my identity of a migrator.

Khoj International Artists Association in collaboration with Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai hosted the first group show by artists based in South India at the Khoj Studios.

As a forum that aims to actively push the envelope of contemporary art practice mediated through practices that foreground qualities of experimentation, invention, research and critical debate, KHOJ positions PEERS as a model for practice as research within the ambit of the visual arts. International Residency 2002

With active funding the residencies, two international residencies were organized between November 2002- March 2003. We were fortunate to receive funding from NIFCA and the Ford Foundation, Cairo for artists from the Nordic region and Cairo /Tehran respectively to participate in the KHOJ residencies.
The first few KHOJ residencies were modeled on the workshop with a smaller number of artists, three international and two Indian.
