Ruchika Negi & Amit Mahanti awarded residency at CCA Ujazdowski Castle

Artists and Media practitioners Ruchika Negi & Amit Mahanti of the Frameworks Media Collective have been awarded a 3-Month residency at the CCA Ujazdowski Castle, as a part of Khoj’s ongoing exchange with this institute. They will be in residence at the CCA from September – November 2016.

Frame Works is a New Delhi-based collective whose practice lies at the intersections of film, research and art. The collective comprises filmmakers/visual artists – Amit Mahanti and Ruchika Negi. Their works are centered around questions of ecological transformation and sustainability, development and cultural practice. Their research interests lie in investigating the relationship between social ecologies, landscapes and the environmental changes caused by human intervention.

During this residency, the artists will be building upon their interest in ecological ‘reorganizations’ in different contexts, and the undercurrents of these transformations – processes that are characterized by loss, renewal, opportunity, anxiety, sustainable use, apathy, exploitation, conflict and coexistence.

A new artistic residence program for curators and artists from India and Poland was initiated and created thanks to the cooperation between the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle (CCA), Khoj International Artists’ Association, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute (IAM)and the Polish Institute in New Delhi. This program was first initiated in May 2015, with Khoj curator Sitara Chowfla participating in the RE:DIRECTING EAST Project organised by the A-I-R Laboratory, CCA Warsaw. In July 2016, Polish artists Simone de Iacobis & Gosia Kuciewicz undertook a residency at Khoj.
