Sculpture and Video Art Residency ’07

Associate Residency at KHOJ Studios featuring the 3 artists.

1/ Takehito Kogenezawa > Berlin.
Koganezawa’s videos often originate from live performances and include the artist as an actor/participant. His drawings are simple coloured pencil lines on large white paper backgrounds.

Converging recognizable objects with abstract fragments, his drawings invoke a surrealist mood. And though surrealist, the artist maintains a light, humorous edge throughout all of his work.
2/ Michael Peter Cain > California.
Aim for Khoj
1) to collaborate with electronic engineers to create viewer interactive
light-sound and kinetic features for my sculptures.
2) to participate in dialogues ongoing at Khoj about my work and
other artists’ work through an exhibition of my work, a lecture about my
work, brainstorming sessions with residents and members, etc.
3/ Susanta Mondal > New Delhi.
I had been experimenting with wooden structures and canvas, used together to get a different form, which was suitable to deliver my own language. The forms of these structures have been inspired by the ancient weaving looms. While weaving looms produce clothes with designs—here weaving looms produced clothes decorated with history, politics and human pain. All of my works demand light in a different way. It was not gallery light that was required, but I wanted light to be an integral part of the work itself.
Associate Residencies are shorter self-directed projects where the artist/artists are free to experiment and explore new directions in the process and production of their project. These allow greater flexibility to both the artists in terms of time and to KHOJ in that proposals may be structured into the program as and when they are submitted through the year.

The program is open to local artists and plays a vital role in keeping the spontaneity of KHOJ alive.
