REProduce KHOJ| Listening Room

Listening Room at Khoj Studios
Sunday, 14th February 2016, 3:00 – 8:00 PM

On Sunday, February 14th , Delhi based music collective REProduce will begin a series called Listening Room at Khoj.  The series aims to fill a gap in the ever iterating and increasingly varied community of live music in India by showcasing talent that might not get heard in the more mainstream oriented venues. Listening Room will focus purely on the music – in a space where an audience can absorb sound on their own terms.

The first edition Listening Room will feature sounds by artists Jessop & Co, Lifafa and Audio Pervert,

Donor Passes available at the door at INR 300

JESSOP&CO (Kolkata)

A verbatim quote from Anupal Adhikary and Subhojyoti Sen would indicate a certain false humility, though imbued with telling urgency: “we have no musical talent, but if we don’t do this, we will go crazy.”  Their musical talent however is certainly present – though perhaps filtered through their own uncompromising take on sonics, frequencies, and cadence.  Observers have likened the experience of listening to their material as “[forcing] you to think about what you’re hearing and shake out any complacency”, and while this may or may not be the case, one should come prepared for a little bit of shaking.  A seizure would be an extreme expectation, but we’re open to that. This will be their Delhi debut; with them will be Sabyaasachi Chowdhury on live visuals.

Lifafa (Delhi)

Those who know, know – Lifafa has been the three year solo project of the vocalist of Delhi’s peerless PCRC, Suryakant Sawhney.  Gifted with a singular baritone, and somehow capable of balancing that, guitar duties, and live sampling and loops, his sonic landscape doesn’t sound or feel like anything else.  Disco, soul, and shoegaze are all reference points, but none really characterize his sound.  His music has taken him across Europe and Asia, but for this set he aims to do something a little different.

Audio Pervert (Delhi)

Samrat B is that rare breed of producer who will not (perhaps cannot) compromise on his sound for anyone.  Over the course of multiple projects collaborations, releases, and live shows, this has resulted in – over the course of over 15 years – some of the most intricate, patient, and banging live production that audiences here have had the benefit of experiencing.  It’s sadly somewhat rare that he does a live set here in Delhi, closing out this night with unannounced guest collaborators.
