Negotiating Routes : Ecologies of the Byways V
The fifth edition of the Negotiating Routes: Ecologies of the Byways project brings with it a series of projects and proposals from across the country that look at issues of ecology, society and community. This year the selected projects investigate and navigate these topics from landscapes as diverse as the mountains of Uttarakhand, the lake regions of Odisha, the forests of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and the plains of central India. This years’ jury, artist Sheba Chhachhi, Khoj Patron Radhika Chopra and Khoj Director Pooja Sood , aimed to select a group of artists and practitioners whose work not only evidenced their long-term engagement with the region they proposed to work with, but also those who stood out for their innovative and original approaches to their chosen space. The fifth edition of the program brings into the fold new artists and also celebrates and supports the work of past participating artists who are returning to continue their research through the Negotiating Routes umbrella.
Watch this space to learn more about this years projects which include investigation into traditional and modern methods of storytelling, empirical scientific research based installations, peri-urban artists’ residencies and more!

The Negotiating Routes project invites artists, artists groups and professionals to propose projects which are site-specific and have an interdisciplinary approach. The projects combine a research based practice and formal art making by artists and local communities, both forms address the visible and invisible transformations taking place in their immediate environments. The project encourages the archiving of local knowledge and mythologies about various ecologies like the flora, fauna, home remedies, stories and folklores, whilst encouraging a dialogue between the artist and the community resulting in an action or project.
