Art and Polemic in Pakistan: A Talk by Virginia Whiles

KHOJ International Artists’ Association and CMYK Bookstore present an evening with Virginia Whiles, author of Art and Polemic in Pakistan: Cultural Politics and Tradition in Contemporary Miniature Painting.

Join us for a fascinating journey exploring the tradition of miniature painting, and the efforts of contemporary artists in Pakistan in the recent decades to revive and reinvent this traditional art form, which had faded under the colonial influence of the British and is now gaining ground.

Virginia will give a short presentation followed by an open Q&A session.

About the Author – Virginia Whiles is Associate Lecturer at Chelsea College of Art, University of the Arts, London. She gained her PhD in Social Anthropology at the School of Oriental and Asian Studies, University of London. Virginia Whiles has previously curated Manoeuvering Miniatures– a highly coded and deeply provocative exhibition on contemporary miniature paintings from Pakistan, for KHOJ in 2001.
