Kaushik Basu, a Padma Bhushan awardee, is Chief Economic Adviser, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. Previously Professor of Economics at the Delhi School of Economics he is currently on leave from Cornell University where he is Professor of Economics and the C. Marks Professor of International Studies. He is President of the Human Development and Capabilities Association, founded by Amartya Sen, member of the Board of Directors of the Exim Bank of India and has held advisory posts with the ILO, the World Bank, and the Reserve Bank of India. Basu has held visiting positions at a number of educational institutions including the London School of Economics and Princeton University. Basu has published widely in the areas of Development Economics, Industrial Organization, Game Theory and Welfare Economics. His books include Analytical Development Economics (1997, MIT Press) and Prelude to Political Economy: A Study of the Social and Political Foundations of Economics (2000, Oxford University Press).
