THE POLITICS OF FOOD RESIDENCY PROGRAMME ‘OPEN CALL FOR INDIAN ARTISTS’

With support from the Charles Wallace India Trust and Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation, Delfina Foundation is offering a three-month residency to an artist with Indian citizenship, living and working in India, and under the age of 40.  The residency period is 5 July to 26 September 2016 and will overlap with Delfina Foundation’s thematic programme on The Politics of Food.  As a result, the residency will particularly benefit those with an interest in food and its wider relationship to the environment, agriculture, financial markets, political and social movements, public engagement, and/or the commons.

In summer 2016, Delfina Foundation’s The Politics of Food series will enter its third season. Since 2014, this programme has brought together over 70 artists, activists, anthropologists, agronomists, chefs, curators, scientists and writers from 32 countries through residencies, events and exhibitions. The first season in winter 2014 introduced a number of general environmental, economic and social concerns that have guided the overall programme, while the second season in spring 2015 specifically explored the relationship between food and three sub-themes: Sex, Diet & Disaster.

The Politics of Food: Markets & Movements will continue to deepen our investigation of this theme. Over twelve weeks, we want to work with artists, curators and thinkers to investigate the production and distribution of food.

We are interested in exploring complex and urgent issues such as farmers’ rights and developments in biotechnological food sciences; ‘fair trade’ and food sovereignty as well as the rise of consumer choice and its impact from food fads to major collective movements such as the Organic and Slow Food movements.

The programme will bring together the applicant from this open call with an invited group of international resident artists and visiting experts and thinkers. In addition, residents will work alongside UK associate artists to share ideas and research. This will take place through both a series of internal events with a range of invited specialists and a public programme.

With support from Charles Wallace India Trust and Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation, the selected artist will receive a 12-week residency at DF in London, including accommodation in our premises in Central London, one economy return flight, a bursary for per diems and a local travel allowance.
