Negotiating Routes: Ecologies of the Byways V

Banner

The fifth edition of the Negotiating Routes: Ecologies of the Byways project brings with it a series of projects and proposals from across the country that look at issues of ecology, society and community. This year, the selected projects investigate and navigate these topics from landscapes as diverse as the mountains of Uttarakhand, the lake regions of Odisha, the forests of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and the plains of central India. This years’ jury – artist Sheba Chhachhi, Khoj Patron Radhika Chopra and Khoj Director Pooja Sood , aimed to select a group of artists and practitioners whose work not only evidenced their long-term engagement with the region they proposed to work with, but also those who stood out for their innovative and original approaches. The fifth edition of the program brings into the fold new artists, but also celebrates and supports the work of past participating artists who are returning to continue their research through the Negotiating Routes umbrella. Watch this space to learn more about this years projects – investigating traditional and modern ways of storytelling, empirical scientific research based installation, peri-urban artists’ residencies and more!

The Negotiating Routes project invites artists, artists groups or professionals to propose projects which are site-specific and have an inter-disciplinary approach that combines research and art creation by artists and local communities, addressing the visible and invisible transformations currently taking place in their immediate environments. The project will encourage archiving of local knowledge and mythologies about various ecologies like the flora, fauna, home remedies, stories and folklores, as also the making of an artist by a specific action or project.
