The Place and Possibilities of Performance Art within the Commercial Gallery Space
A Discussion on Performance Art within gallery contexts
moderated by members of Live Art UK (Daniel Brine and Philippa Barr )

This will an opportunity for gallerists, Live Art promoters and other guests to talk informally about the kinds of relationships that are possible between ephemeral and time based works and the commercial art market, including discussion about the 'value of Live Art'; about the ways in which performance can contribute to the culture and experiences of galleries, and how its traces, legacies, or documentation can or should be subject to the currencies/economies of the at market. The networking meeting will ask guests and gallerists to question what is their interest in engaging with performance- what can it do for them and what can they do for it?

The session will also include a discussion about the different infrastructures that support performance in different countries and contexts. The visiting curators from the UK are all venue and agency groupings but the Khoj Festival is predominantly in commercial galleries.

Questions arising from this might be: how do artists relate to these different types of infrastructure and how do might both types develop in the future.

Philippa Barr is the coordinator for New Work Network.
