The Yamuna project

Picnic at Jagatpur - January 9 . 1200 hrsVenue: Jagatpur village banks: the site of Atul Bhalla's forays. 5 kms upstream of Wazirabad, (the headwork for Delhi's drinking water) and before the drains hit the river, the water here is still clean! "After negotiating the crazy Delhi traffic and finding our way from Khirki to Jagatpur, through the madness of ITO and down the Wazirabad road, we had all reached the brink of exhaustion till we found ourselves amidst lush green fields on the banks of Yamuna. An aspect of the river I can most certainly say most Delhi-ites are unaware of. The beginning of the Eco-art residency started off dramatically on the banks of Yamuna in a picturesque serene spot. Atul Bhalla and Ravi Agarwall invited audience to absorb the beauty of the river. We spent the afternoon enjoying the peace and digging into hot food and tea. We were later joined by the Mukhia (headman) of the village who gave us a detailed history of the land, the river and the people of the village." |
