FILAMENT: KHOJ PEERS Exhibition

FILAMENT: KHOJ PEERS Exhibition in collaboration with Vadhera Art Gallery Aug 21 – Sept 5th 2008:

About PEERS
One of the most significant programmes at KHOJ Studios, PEERS is a 4-week residency programme for recent graduates + masters students from art colleges across India initiated with support from IFA, India Foundation for the Arts (Bangalore). PEERS provides an experimental space outside an academic programme to facilitate emerging practitioners to consolidate his or her practice and also to interact with professional practitioners. The first PEERS residency was initiated in 2003 just after KHOJ became building based in Nov 2002. PEERS was thus programmed as a space for experimentation outside an academic programme to facilitate emerging practitioners to consolidate their practice and also to interact with professional practitioners.

Rationale
The program is aimed to provide a career development opportunity for a new and diverse generation of emerging artists.

Role of Experimentation:
PEERS highlights the importance of experimentation, of trial and error, of finding ways to express or present ideas, regardless of the “success” of the final product in material terms. This perspective plays an important role in encouraging young artists to continue to find new ways to express themselves, to grow, flourish and continue to push the limits of their practice.

Cross-Disciplinary Exchange:
Since the first International Workshop in 1997, KHOJ has recognized the significance and importance of opportunities for trans-disciplinary interaction and exchange. Bringing together 5 individual with distinct artistic practices and backgrounds provides opportunities for the PEERS to connect seemingly disparate ideas within a larger theme, learn from each other and take away new insights into their own practice.

FILAMENT: Exhibition Celebrating 6 years of the PEERS Student Residency
2007 marked the 10th anniversary of KHOJ. On the occasion of the 10 Year celebrations, KHOJ proposed to curate an exhibition of past PEERS 2003-2007(participants of the PEERS, the KHOJ residency program for students). Envisioned as a pilot curatorial project, the 2 week long exhibition was hosted at the Vadhera Art Gallery. KHOJ invited Latika Gupta, a young Delhi based curator to curate and put the exhibition together.  The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication.
